Celebrating three cultural entities with very deep Tucson roots

Takes a look at Tucson history this week, I'd like to turn to the history of three of our oldest home-grown arts and culture entities.

Tucson Museum of Art

Established in 1924 as the Tucson Fine Arts Association, the Tucson Museum of Art's original home was in the Kingan House on Franklin Street. In 1954, the association was renamed the Tucson Art Center and established a formal exhibition and education mission.

In 1975, the Tucson Art Center moved to its present location on Main Avenue and became the caretaker of five historic properties - La Casa Cordova, Romero House, Edward Nye Fish House, Stevens/Duffield House and the J. Knox Corbett House - when the name became Tucson Museum of Art to better reflect the expanded mission of the organization.

The Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block encompasses an entire city block in downtown Tucson, and features original and traveling exhibitions focusing on Art of Latin America, Art of the American West, Modern and Contemporary Art and Asian Art.

Tucson Museum of Art , 140 N. Main Ave. - www.tucsonmuseumofart.org/ - (520) 624-2333. Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon-5 p.m. Sundays. General admission is $8, veterans and seniors $6, students 13 and older $3. Members, active duty military with ID and children 12 and younger are free.

Tucson Symphony Orchestra

The Tucson Symphony Orchestra's first performance on Jan. 13, 1929, took place in the auditorium at Tucson High School. There were only two concerts that first season, but the new entity was warmly received by the public. The second season offered three concerts and featured a new conductor, Joseph De Luca.

Concerts in the early years were held at 8:30 p.m. Sundays. Mid-way through the third season, the TSO moved to the Temple of Music and Art, first playing there on Jan. 25, 1931.

In 1935, season tickets cost $5. In 1971, the symphony moved to its current home, the Tucson Convention Center's Music Hall with a gala opening concert featuring guest conductor Arthur Fiedler of the Boston Pops.

The mission is to share beautiful, professionally performed music with as wide an audience as possible, with performances at various locations around the community. They also have award-winning educational programs serving thousands of children annually.

Tucson Symphony Orchestra , 2175 N. Sixth Ave. (office) - www.tucsonsymphony.org/ - (520) 882-8585. Concerts include the Classic Series Friday evenings and Sunday matinees from October through April in the TCC Music Hall, 260 S. Church Ave.; TSO Pops! series Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees from December through March also in the Music Hall; and the MasterWorks Chamber Orchestra series Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees November through April in the auditorium at Catalina Foothills High School, 4300 E. Homes for sale foreclosure Tucson AZ: Steering clear of blunders ...

It's obvious when you look at homes for sale foreclosure Tucson AZ that this part of the United States is one of the places that has been hardest hit by the downward spiral in the housing market, and that's why it's a fabulous idea to look for any kind of foreclosures that you can find in that area. These are generally good investments that will bring you an excellent ROI.

There are several things that you need to look for in Coalinga foreclosures or Arizona properties that will help you close a good deal where you can make some money, but there are other things that can steer you down a bad road if you don't watch out for them.

For example, many people who are novice investors underestimate the cost of renovations for the homes for sale foreclosure Tucson AZ they are looking at. Although most people are honest, you cannot rely completely on the claims and disclosures of the seller. In some cases when you're buying a house or the foreclosure sale that could include Coalinga foreclosures, you may not have the luxury of obtaining a thorough home inspection before handing over the cash, but you should examine the house yourself as much as possible.

Never assume that you're buying a place with a clear title either. There have even been cases where con artists move into a house and print up a phony title to sell to unsuspecting buyers. It's even possible that a homeowner can try and sell you a property without telling you it has multiple liens against it. If you're not 100% certain that the person who is trying to sell you the house owns it, experts suggest that you don't buy the property at all.

It's always a safe bet to look at our daily updated listings of foreclosures for sale here, at BuyForeclosuresSale.com.
