DxO Labs develops FilmPack 3 film simulation software
DxO Labs has launched FilmPack 3, the latest version of its silver halide film simulation software. The software now includes the ability to mimic up to 60 famous black and white, and color films, based on calibration from professional prints, giving what the company claims is the most precise film simulation on the market. Version 3 adds new film looks and color filters. It also brings a greater degree of control, including HSL sliders, a channel mixer for optimizing Black and White conversions and, at customer request, the ability to add vignetting. Custom film styles can also be created by mixing the color response of one film with the grain pattern of another. The software is available as standalone software or plugins for DxO Optics Pros, Photoshop, Lightroom or Aperture.

Sailing Into The Sunset | Fine Art Photography in Black and White ...
There are times you take a very good photograph but do not know it until see the finished results. This photograph is one of those events. Our daughter from Chicago was visiting and as we do with all visitors we headed out to Pensacola Beach later in the afternoon.
As we sat up our chairs we watched two motorized parasailers flew be out over the gulf and disappeared down the beach.
Florida is known for its beautiful sunsets and this evening was going to be one of them as we sat enjoying the cooling gulf breezes on a hot day.
The setting sun went behind the clouds as one parasailer came back towards us, waved as he passed by overhead and headed into the sunset. Just then the sun suddenly came through the clouds and I took several different photos as the sun illuminated the sail and cast a glow around it.
I had the camera set to capture the sunset and the parasailer was a dramatic addition to the scene. Many times when you shoot directly into the sun with a digital camera you will get glare or reflections in the lens, but not this time!
I am showing the scene in both color and black and white but I like the color photo the best.
Award winning photographer, Franklin (Frank) Brueske, is originally from Southeastern Minnesota. He became interested in photography while in elementary school and purchased his first camera from a rural community drug store when he was is the sixth grade. It took 127 film, was fixed focus, but had sun and cloud adjustments. He still has that camera today.
