Airline returns passenger's bag minus data in laptop
Bhaumick contacted the airline officials who sent her baggage to Ahmedabad on June 7. However when she got her laptop, she found all her personal data, including documents, videos and music files, was deleted.
"They had even changed the password for my laptop. Many of my clothes and gifts that I had brought for relatives in Ahmedabad were missing. It's rather cruel on the part of Kingfisher Airlines officials to delete my personal data," said Bhaumick, who is a student of second year National Institute of Fashion Technology , Bangalore .
On inquiry, Kingfisher Airlines security department officials said that the baggage had been lying unclaimed for six months. After that the airline's IT department broke into the laptop to find the owner's details. They did not know about the missing belongings, but admitted that the laptop data might have been deleted while cracking the password to log into the laptop.
"We have a centralized system for unclaimed baggage which all airlines have access to and Bhaumick's details were uploaded there on January 3. But Air India never got in touch with us," said a Kingfisher Airlines official.
"After landing at Ahmedabad airport, I called the Air India office several times and was told that officials were trying to trace the baggage. I shot them emails and once got a reply that the airline will give Rs 9,000 as compensation. I told them that it's an insult as the baggage was worth more than Rs 60, 000," said Bhaumick.

On June 6, she got a call from Debjyoti Das, a friend, who had received an email from Kingfisher Airlines about an unclaimed pink laptop. Kingfisher had found Das' email address in one of the chat messengers on Bhaumick's laptop.
