Gift cards take the hassle out of gift giving. Every year Americans spend billions of dollars on gift cards for special days like Father’s day. They take away some of the pains out of choosing gifts for some, but they create hassles for our planet. Even though they are small, their use-and-throw model is wasteful. Gift card waste in the US amounts to nearly 75 million pounds of PVC in landfills every year!

GiftRocket is a unique electronic gift giving service that eliminates plastic or paper gift cards and certificates. It promises to bring a sea-change into the traditional billion dollar gift-card giving practice. With GiftRocket, you can gift anytime, anywhere and any amount! Traditional gift cards are limited to chains and larger businesses while with GiftRocket, the choices are almost endless. So how does it work?

GiftRocket uses Yelp for search listings, so anything goes. You can send a GiftRocket to any business or location on Yelp, including restaurants, bars, parks, canoe rental, the works. Best part, the business does not even have to participate or sell gift cards.

Per their website, some of the other perks are-

It’s easy and its online- Ever bought a gift card for a friend in another city? It takes a couple phone calls and some mailing and faxing. You can send a GiftRocket without getting up, no matter where it’s for.

Money won’t disappear- The recipient gets the full value of the gift when they redeem. They can spend as much or as little as they like. No more half used gift cards.

It can’t be lost, stolen or forgotten- No need to carry a bunch of cards around. All you need is your phone. They do not expire either.

Search for a business on Yelp. Pick a business. Any business. Enter your friend’s email and how much the gift is for. Pay. Get started at  send a GiftRocket .

Your friend gets an email with instructions on how to redeem the gift.

When your friend is at the business, they click the secret link on a smartphone & press redeem. Your phone’s GPS system verifies your location.

Your phone's GPS system verifies your location. GiftRocket sends you the money using PayPal. You'll get an email from PayPal when the location is verified on your phone and you redeem. Pay as usual – the money is in your account.

CartThrob Forums | Paypal Express Integration Instructions

Real novice questions here:

I’m using PP Pro and want to add the PP Express Gateway as well.  When I look at the list of gateways, I see “UNTESTED paypal_express_title.”  Is this the proper one?

Also, if one specifies a primary payment gateway, how does one specify a secondary gateway?

I’m sure these are easy but I’m scratching my head a bit…  I’ve gone through the docs and have been unsuccessful at finding these answers.

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

You can set up the settings to any gateway in the backend. Whichever is selected is the default gateway, but the others can still be used.

http://cartthrob.com/docs/tags_detail/checkout_form/#par_gateway

You can have as many different checkout forms as you want, each with a different gateway specified. If you want to get really fancy, you can use jQuery to dynamically switch gateways in your template. That’s what we do on CartThrob.com/cart/checkout

Thanks, that solved the php errors. The orders are processing fine. The only issue I have now, is that the return page isn’t working.

I have changed the index.php file to world and have .htaccess working - I haven’t removed index.php, - just renamed it, as shown in the EE docs.

In the checkout page I have: return=“shopping_cart/order_complete/{segment_2}”

Does this over-ride anything that’s in the Paypal Return URL settings?

Thanks again for the outstanding support!

This: ?ACT=32&G=kWm%2 is correct. From there it *should* redirect you to your final destination. If it’s not, then there’s probably a PHP error.

At this point, I need to go test this. I’m sure as soon as I test it again, I’ll be able to fix the problem. Unfortunately though, for the rest of the day I won’t be able to do it, because I already have a backlog of support issues. Bump this thread tomorrow if you haven’t heard more from me by then.

Thanks for giving it your attention Chris - it’s got a little closer, it tries to redirect to the correct order_complete page, but it strips out the index.php - so instead of going to domain.com/index.php/shopping_cart/order_complete it’s going to domain.com/shopping_cart/order_complete

It’s also stopped generating the purchased_items now. It generates orders though.
