Transport firm throws down Arctic challenge

MCCULLA Transport Ireland have teamed up with the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster (YFCU) to offer a lucky young member the chance of a lifetime.
The challenge to YFCU members is to take part in a one day articulated lorry driving course which is designed to show off their heavy goods vehicle driving skills.
Members will be tested on Saturday 16th July 2011 at Nutt’s Corner, Antrim and will be given a unique opportunity to compete in a driving course with a trainer who will be assessing their driving skills.
Competitors will also be interviewed by McCulla Transport to ensure they are the correct person to join their top fleet of drivers.
The McCulla Arctic Challenge is an opportunity for young farmers to gain valuable training and employment through a driving challenge.
There will be approximately 100 entrants from YFCU clubs throughout Northern Ireland. Each entrant must be 20 years old and hold a car licence but not an HGV licence. They will be driving 10 x 460 bhp Volvo trucks and trailers at 44 tons gross weight with a combined value of £1.4 million.
NFU are providing sponsorship of insurance for the day. Each entrant will be shown the basics of how to drive a 16 metre long articulated truck, they then will be asked to drive around a specifically designed course to test them on their natural skills in areas such as special awareness, accurate reversing, controlled manoeuvring, self presentation. Five separate driving schools are providing judges to access each entrant’s skills.
The winner of the McCulla Arctic Challenge will be trained and put through his/her HGV class 1 licence and given 35 hours of CPC training (certificate of professional competence) at a cost of approximately £3,500.
Also a starting salary of £18,000 per year job will be provided at McCulla Ireland with the potential of rising to £30,000 per year, a massive opportunity for any young person especially in the current financial climate.
