Albuquerque tourism meeting rescheduled

The New Mexico Tourism Department has rescheduled its meeting in Albuquerque to June 20.

It will the last of six regional meetings around the state with Tourism Secretary Monique Jacobson discussing the Cooperative Marketing program. It is scheduled to take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Hotel Albuquerque near Old Town.

Tourism staff plan to ask questions to better understand how the region operates and will introduce a possible future framework for regional marketing efforts.

From 3 to 5 p.m. a second meeting is scheduled to take place focusing on specific changes to the Cooperative Marketing program . Both meetings are open to the public. The program’s budget has declined over the last several years by about 40 percent, to $600,000. In the past, it has offered regions matching funds for tourism marketing programs.

A news release from the state Tourism Department on the Albuquerque program states the purpose of the regional marketing program is to work with the private sector to integrate regional marketing efforts within statewide marketing plans, and provide assistance to communities in tourism product development.

At the Governor’s Conference on Tourism in April, Jacobson promised the program would not be slashed.

“The intention is to get smarter with it so we can grow it in the future, hopefully,” she said.

Jacobson expressed concern at the conference about a “fragmented voice” in tourism marketing in the state.

Similar meetings have been held in Farmington, Santa Fe, Truth or Consequences and Las Vegas. A fifth is planned for June 8 at 1 p.m. at the Roswell Chamber of Commerce.

Abluquerque Hotel Recommendations | United States Forum | Fodor's ...

Does anyone have any recommendations for a clean, safe hotel in any part of Albuquerque? I'd like to be in a place where we feel comfortable walking around during the day and in the evening (not late, but after dinner). As far as the hotel, I don't need anything really fancy, but I do want to be comfortable. I'm willing to spend more for a good location and safe hotel. My DW and I spent 2 nights at the Route 66 Hostel on Central Avenue but I would not advise walking too far from there after sunset. There is a good bus service running E-W on Central Ave. The east end of the bus route is at the entrance to the Sandia gondola ride. We came into town on Amtrak and did not rent a car. We walked a lot(daytime) and rode the bus.
