I VAMPIRI NELL'HEAVY METAL ITALIANO

Forse a qualcuno parrà strano che sia possibile sviluppare un’intera discussione sulla figura del vampiro all’interno dell’heavy metal italiano. I paletti — scusate il gioco di parole — sembrano restringere il campo così tanto da non lasciare niente da dire. Solo un genere musicale, solo un paese. Eppure, se dovessimo parlare del mondo intero, un volume di mille pagine non ci basterebbe. Nel panorama internazionale incontriamo nomi noti come i Cradle of Filth , gruppo symphonic black metal inglese nato nel 1991 e che ha incentrato gran parte dei suoi lavori sul vampirismo; gli esempi sono poi moltissimi, dagli ottantiani Venom agli svedesi Bathory , paladini del viking metal, dagli statunitensi (blak/thrash) Iced Heart ai portoghesi Moonspell , dal dark dei Bauhaus ai punk/emo My Chemical Romance , dagli argentini Vampiria ai famosissimi Sting e Annie Lennox , gli artisti che hanno dedicato almeno una canzone all’affascinante figura del vampiro non mancano certo. E da noi, in Italia, la Premiata Forneria Marconi ha dedicato un’intera opera rock alla figura di Dracula. Eppure, nessuno di loro, possiede ambedue le caratteristiche: heavy metal e italianità.
Pur piantando queste coordinate, il discorso si farebbe comunque lungo e complicato, anche perché molte sono le band che trattano anche se solo di sfuggita la figura del vampiro (come per esempio i Labyrinth , i Vanexa o i Rhapsody o Fire , di cui parleremo in seguito) o gli dedicano un album (vedi sempre più avanti i Necrodeath ). Ma ci sono tre gruppi che hanno incentrato in particolare il loro lavoro (o perlomeno in alcuni anni della loro carriera) intorno alla figura del vampiro: Death SS , Theatres Des Vampires e Mandragora Scream .
 
Tra i tre, i più ‘anziani’ e noti sono scuramente i Death SS .
