Colony Square Mall distributes $20000 to local schools
ZANESVILLE - Cash awards totaling $20,000 were announced today by Colony Square Mall, promoter of the My School's Cool rewards program.Since August, local schools have been competing for the funds by collecting mall receipts and participating in mall programs. Their efforts are converted into points, which determine each school's standing in the competition.
After calculating each school's percentage of the total points earned, the $20,000 pot was divided accordingly among the seven participating schools: Bishop Fenwick Elementary, Falls Elementary, Franklin Local Community School, Hopewell Elementary, John McIntire Elementary, New Concord Elementary and Zane Grey Elementary.
The top performing school, Bishop Fenwick, earned $5,961; New Concord was second, earning $4,372; a close third was Franklin Local Community School, which earned $4,223. Hopewell Elementary earned $2,944; John McIntire earned $2,342; Zane Grey received $124 and Falls earned $31.
My School's Cool will return for the 2011-2012 school year. Schools will compete September through April for a share of $20,000. Schools interested in participating can call Kevin Pinson, program coordinator, at 454-3255, ext. 1030.
Colony Square Mall is owned and managed by General Growth Properties, one of the nation's largest shopping center owners.

Children's Place, Cookie Store Bring Colony Square To 78 Percent ...
ZANESVILLE -- Despite the financial difficulties of parent General Growth Properties in recent years and the churn of stores, the Colony Square Mall is soldiering on in its 30th year as a regional shopping destination.
Two new retailers -- The Children's Place and The Cookie Store -- are in the process of setting up shop and another -- Rue 21 -- has moved to a larger store front in the middle of the mall's concourse. The new stores will bring the mall's occupancy rate up to 78 percent.
"I'm excited to see that The Children's Place will be here; that's our place," said Jamie Nelson, of Crooksville, who was at the mall Friday with Rhonda Epifano, of New Lexington. "We won't have to drive to Pittsburgh anymore to go there."
Both said they don't shop at the mall very often, but when they do, it's usually to go to a specific store, such as Victoria's Secret, or to go to the Cinemark Theater.
They were pleased to hear The Cookie Store would be opening soon as well.
"It's always great when they can bring new things in," Epifano said.
