Summer programs help entertain kids
JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Region 8 children are out of school for the summer, but the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library staff has a number of fun activities in the works.
Director of Youth Services at the Jonesboro Public Library, Kay Taylor, says the library is offering a series of programs to parents and their children over the next seven weeks. Wednesday a musical group called, "The Kiddos" made a special trip to Jonesboro. "This is the second of our "off site" programs at the Jonesboro Public Library. The Kiddos are from Siloam Springs, Arkansas and they have wonderful music. We've just had a great time singing. This is a wonderful activity for the whole family to come to for the summer time."
Taylor says every Wednesday a different event will be available to children in the morning at Parker Park Community Center or in the afternoon at the Turtle Creek Mall.
Jonesboro resident Rebecca Mixon is the mother of two, daughter Evelyn is 3 and son Lynden 4. Rebecca says she's been bringing her children to the Jonesboro Public Library's programs since she moved to Jonesboro two years ago. "It's just a wonderful facility and has so many children's programs. Especially during the summer when the kids aren't in preschool we pretty much plan our summer activities around what's happening at the library. We come every Tuesday to story time and every Wednesday to the offsite program."
Mixon says her children have a great time while they learn. "It's great that story time gets them into the library and we spend time together choosing books. They get exposure to all of this reading."
Around two hundred children attended The Kiddos performance. The musical group also made an appearance at the Turtle Creek Mall around two o'clock.
Next Wednesday will be a special performance from Mr. Matt of Nashville, Tennessee who is a part of the Wild Goose Chase Theatre. Mr. Matt does rod and shadow puppets, and will be at Parker Park Community Center at 10a.
