41st Moonshine Festival begins today

NEW STRAITSVILLE -- With a variety of entertainment for all ages, the 41st annual Moonshine Festival kicks off today in New Straitsville.

The festival officially begins with rides at 5 p.m. and opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. and will continue through Memorial Day.

During Prohibition, New Straitsville became known as the Moonshine Capital of Ohio, where the illicit spirit was made and shipped all over the country. The festival is an outgrowth of the Perry County village's centennial celebration in 1970, complete with rides, games, entertainment, parades, contests for the entire family and a working moonshine still display.

Each day features various themes and related activities. Today is WYBZ Day, Queen and Veteran's Day, and Tina Hiles and Clarissa Nixon Day; Friday is Hometown Day, St. Augustine Day and Betty St. Clair Day; Saturday is Kids Day, and Jim and Ann Thompson Day; Sunday is The Sam 98.3 Day and Kenneth and Marilyn Burgess Day; Monday is Parade Day and Tom Boyle Day.

Other highlights for today include the God Bless the USA Veteran's Parade at 7 p.m. and recording artist Jason Hook's performance at 9:30 p.m.

The SCW Pro Wrestling will take center stage at 8 p.m. Friday with various matches. Also on Friday, for the first time, a garden tractor pull will be done at 6 p.m.

Saturday includes a host of contests for children, including the baby contest at 11 a.m. and Little Miss Moonshine Pageant at 2 p.m.

Sunday will feature a Gospel Jubilee at 1 p.m., cruise-in at 1 p.m., homemade pie contest at 5 p.m., garden tractor demo derby at 3 p.m., and the feature attraction of performer Tommy Cash. The brother of the late Johnny Cash will take the stage at 6 and 9 p.m.

When they do FP, they tries to match with criminal database. Why do they want to match to the Port of entry or Security clearance database and give RED color warning. I think it is something you need to work with your attorney. Even in Name check, they tries to match with Criminal first, middle or last names and if match found, they do some investigation on your case. Same logic goes with FP. They won't match with good records, but they tries to search in bad records. It is simple common sense. Nothing to panic, but check with your attorney. The Chamber represents numerous companies and organizations that need to bring thousands of foreign workers and students into the United States each year. The inability of these companies to bring highly educated workers and students into the United States severely hurts their competitiveness in the global market and often leads to companies moving operations overseas. It is imperative that any comprehensive immigration reform includes changes that would allow employers in the United States to recruit and retain highly educated foreign talent and guarantee our continued global economic competitiveness and success. The announcement last week by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)regarding the fact that the H-1B visa cap for the FY2008 was reached on the first day applications were accepted marks the dire need for changes in the system. This is also the fourth consecutive year the H-1B cap was met before the fiscal year even starts. USCIS will now conduct a computer-generated random selection process to determine which of these needed workers will be excluded. Other areas of U.S. immigration system for highly-skilled immigrants face similar daunting barriersfrom years of waiting for a green card to the inability of hiring a student from a United States university as a permanent worker right after graduation. The current system is counterproductive to the countrys economic, security, and social goals. Retaining the best and the brightest foreign workers help make U.S. economy strong. These artificial barriers are forcing some companies to conduct business elsewhere, wherever they can hire the necessary talent. The Chamber strongly urges you to supports comprehensive immigration reform that would include: My H1 B Visa and my wife's H4 is being transfered to a new employer.
