411mania Interviews: Reality TV Producer SallyAnn Salsano
SallyAnn Salsano might not be a household name but her shows certainly are; she's produced some of the most well known and most watched reality programming in recent history, including Jersey Shore, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Nashville Star, Design Star, Dance Your Ass Off, A Shot at Love, and Tool Academy. She is President of 495 Productions, which responsible for Shore along with many other series, including Nail Files, which just broke TV Guide Network ratings records with its premiere, and Repo Games, which debuts tonight at 11pm on Spike. SallyAnn Salsano: Not really. I have a small development department and a lot of times it gets to them first. Stephanie Lydecker and Josh Peters run my development and those guys go through everything and once a week we download. If I'm town than I'll hear stuff with them right away and if not they hear it and we're all in synch so they know what I'll want to do. SallyAnn Salsano: Repo Games was one of those things. A guy named Chris and a guy named Jose had an idea and we had a mutual friend in common, who's my lawyer, and he told them, "I think I know the girl for this." We met, we all hit it off, and within five minutes we were like, "let's do this." We were off to the races pretty quick; Spike was the first and only place I pitched it. It was the first time I ever pitched Spike and we all just went for it. We work with a repo company and its real people with cars actually up for repo. We don't know what we're getting on the show until they come out the door. We don't know names, numbers, anything about them, until they come out the door and say they want to participate on the show. It keeps us on our toes because we never know what's going on on the other end. SallyAnn Salsano: They either think it's a joke – why are you here and why are you going to pay for my car – or the other one is, most people are not so excited that their car is about to get repo'd. The repo guys have been sprayed with bug spray, chased with frying pans; you name it, it goes down. You'd be surprised how many people don't even ask why the cameras are there and what's going on. Everyone makes up some cockamamie story about why this is happening but we all know why this is happening, because you didn't pay your bills. They all have some story about why it's not their fault and all this other crazy stuff until you tell them this is a game show and if you win, we'll pay it off for you, and then they're like, "yeah, I just haven't paid it." That's always fun, to hear what they come up with in their head. Sometimes they don't want to do it and I'm like, "Dude, you've already lost." This is the one game show where you've lost the game before you've started and you have to try to win your way back. There's genuinely nothing to lose; you are in essence already a loser at the point we show up, and then we give you the chance to win the car back. "If you can't pay, you might as well play" is what we always tell them. What's the difference? I'm going to ask you five questions and if you answer three of the five correct, I pay off your car forever, so you never have a car payment on this car ever again. If not, when I leave, you're car is going to be repossessed, which was going to happen anyway. Why not take the chance?Bridal Jeopardy Questions - News
