Kingsport police charge three NC women in online prostitution sting

A Kingsport police investigation into online prostitution has prompted charges against three North Carolina women.

According to arrest reports vice detectives contacted the women online, with them agreeing to meet their prospective clients Tuesday in the Model City. Sgt. Tim Crawford said the women were using Backpage.com, a classified website similar to Craigslist. They allegedly advertised they would be in the Tricities, or willing to travel to the region.

At an undisclosed hotel within the city two women met with an undercover officer, with each allegedly agreeing to have sex for $300. Police then arrested each for prostitution, according to the report, and located two Percocet and cut straws during a search.

The women are identified as Belinda Byrd, 42, of Alexander, N.C., and Brittany Monique Davidson, 22, of Asheville, N.C. Due to an active violation of probation warrant in North Carolina Byrd was transported to the city jail. Davidson was released on citations.

At another location, which the arrest report also does not identify, a vice detective met with Bretina Ferio Hickey, 19, of Asheville. She also allegedly agreed to exchange sex for money and was detained by the officer.

Police report a search located a plastic container with marijuana and rolled marijuana cigarettes. She was cited for prostitution and simple possession of schedule IV drugs, then released.

Crawford said these cases of alleged prostitution are misdemeanors, meaning that unless there is reason to believe the suspects won't appear for court, they must be released on citations. He added the KPD Vice Unit will continue to investigate cases of online prostitution.
