Eastern Shore college fund nets $6000 for students

MELFA -- On a day that started out warm and ended up with temperatures in the 90s, the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation hosted the 23rd annual H.B. Rew, Jr. Charity Golf Tournament at Eastern Shore Yacht & Country Club.

The annual golf tournament raises scholarship funds for ESCC students, which are used when other forms of financial aid do not cover total tuition, books and other fees. This year, the tournament raised almost $6,000 thanks to generous sponsors and golfers.

A field of 20 teams teed off at 1 p.m. When all was said and done, the team of Charlie Cameron, Carlton Leonard, Michael Leonard and Bill Sterling had taken first place in the first flight. Prizes were given for first and second place teams in three flights, as follows:

» First Flight: First -- Charlie Cameron, Carlton Leonard, Michael Leonard and Bill Sterling; Second -- Gerald Davis, H.B. Rew Jr., Peter Regan and Vince Piazza.

» Second Flight: First -- Don Schultz, Jeremy Starkey and Wayne Williams; Second -- Ned Ames, Ted Ames, Hearst Vann and Danny Vestal.

» Third Flight: First -- John Custis, Rick Matthews, Adair Tyler and John T. Williams Jr.; Second -- John Morrison, Sean Reilly, C.L. Marshall and Adam James.

Your Questions About Eastern Shore Community College Answered ...

Where can I find a convenient CNA training course on the Eastern Shore of MD?

I live in Salisbury, MD on the Eastern Shore of MD. I need to get my CNA but because I work full time during the day it makes it difficult for me to take any classes that the community colleges offer – are there other CNA courses / programs offered by individuals or organizations on the Eastern Shore that cater to the adult in regards to evening sessions? Do you know names, e-mails, or contacts that I can get in touch with?

Admin answers:

Call around to local nursing home and see if they offer the course, and its a lot easier there than at a community college. Also, you can contact the state board of health and they can give you all the information, if you are already certified, sometimes you can just transfer your certification or maybe just take a test, it just depends on what your state requires.

What course of study should I follow for physician assistance?

I’m in my 2nd semester of community college , and I’m just doing general studies. I am a little lost to what courses I should be focusing on or taking to prep me for it, any help? I’m eventually planning on transferring to Univ. of Maryland Eastern Shore for my bachelors in P.A.. Thanks for any help. What college should I go to?

Im torn between two choices! I live in a very rural area in MD and have a choice to stay here and go to a college close to home, but Im waiting listed and may have to do a community college for the fall semester. My second choice is to Go to Towson University in the city, which is VERY congested and busy compared to the quiet of the eastern shore . I can stay on the shore and be close to home, but might miss out on the fun times of an entirely new setting. Or If I choose to go to the city, I might not like the noise and I will undoubtedly be on my own. Just to throw a wrench in my plans, a friend of mine is going to go to TU and theres a chance We could room and that would be GREAT, But I know I cant base my decision on that possibility. Any insight for this?

Small school close to home w/ possibility of community college first.
