Buckeyes bust a move in campus MP3 experiment

In an effort to top that, about 200 OSU students and faculty and staff members participated in a giant social experiment yesterday that was part art with a pinch of silliness and a whole lot of fun.

Here's how the One Community Together in Sync experiment worked: Those who accepted an invitation to take part in the MP3 experiment received instructions to download an audio file on their cellphones or music players Tuesday night, then gather in front of the Ohio Union at 3:15 p.m. yesterday.

They were told not to listen to the file, so most of the participants still had no idea what to expect as they grabbed bags of props at a check-in station and waited for Brutus Buckeye's cue from a third-floor balcony.

At precisely 3:30, Brutus led a countdown and told participants to push play on their iPods, MP3 players and cellphones.

Upbeat dance music filled their ears as they marched along High Street.

"I wish I knew what we're doing," one girl shouted.

"This music is good," said another. "I can dance to every song."

Just as the group settled on the Wexner Center for the Arts plaza, a male voice on the audio file boomed "Get your game faces on" as the Bangles' Walk Like an Egyptian played in the background.
