National Red Power Round Up will be something to see
The International Harvesters Collectors Club of Minnesota invites everyone to the 2011 National Red Power Roundup, June 23-25, Freeborn County Fairgrounds, Albert Lea, Minn.
This is only the second time the national event has been held in Minnesota. Back in 1999, the Roundup was held in Hastings.
Event planners expect 25,000-30,000 attendees in 2011. The cost to attend is $10 per day or $25 for a three-day pass. Anyone age 12 and under gets in free with a paid adult.
There’s lots of information about the event at the International Harvesters Collectors Club of Minnesota website, located at http://www.ihcc15.com/2011
rpru.html. The 70 acres of fairgrounds have been reserved for seven days, to allow participants to set up tractors and lots of other IH equipment.
“This is the largest U.S. exhibition of farm tractors and equipment by a single manufacturer,” said Bruce Jensen, co-chair of the event, and president of the Minnesota club. “Even though they are no longer producing IH equipment, there are so many exhibits and restorations of these tractors and equipment.”
Jensen has received many phone calls from IH enthusiasts.
“I had a call from a fellow in California the other night,” Jensen said. “He and his buddy are driving. They said they have never been to a Roundup before.”
A man is coming from New Zealand and has a camping spot reserved in the fairgrounds. Jensen heard of at least one person from Germany and another from Holland interested in attending.
Whether you want to come and look or bring an exhibit – just show up, Jensen said. He added that people would still be bringing items to exhibit on the last day of the show. They will find a place for every tractor, IH piece of equipment or vehicle.
“It’s trucks, pickups, IH Scouts,” he said. “”They also developed the Cub Cadet original lawnmower, and it’s the 50th anniversary.”
Farmall Red was introduced on tractors in November 1936 for safety reasons. The tractors were starting to travel on roads – and gray tractors were not as easy to see. The Roundup will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the red-colored tractor.
Public parking and ticket sales will be located outside the show grounds, with handicapped parking available within the grounds. There are five entry gates, and shuttle buses will pick up show attendees.
Jensen says to look for the tractor and implement display in front of the grand stand. The IH trucks and crawlers will be located nearby. Both small and large crawlers will be exhibited.
