Bloody bird couldn’t fly: 9900 block, Edgewater Terr., Fort Washington, May 20. A man reported an injured bird in his yard with blood on its tail that appeared unable to fly. An animal control officer picked up an injured eagle and took it to a wildlife rehabilitator.
Dog locked in hot car: 1600 FedEx Way, Landover, May 21. Police requested pick-up of a dog that someone reported finding left inside a locked car with the windows barely cracked. The dog was panting heavily. Officers responded, removed the dog and gave it water. An animal control officer picked up the 3-year-old tan Yorkshire terrier. The dog’s owner returned to the car while animal and police officers were present and was issued a summons to appear in court for the incident. The dog was impounded and later claimed May 23.
Racoon in a closet: 4700 block, 68th Pl., Hyattsville, May 25. An animal control officer removed an injured gray raccoon from a man’s closet and took it to a wildlife rehabilitator.
Man saves turtle from crows: 7300 block, Den Meade Ave., Fort Washington, May 27. A man reported holding a turtle he had found on the side of the road with crows pecking at it. An animal control officer picked up a healthy green turtle and returned it to the wild.
Snake in basement: 3600 block, Edwards St., Upper Marlboro, May 28. An animal control officer removed a healthy black snake from a basement and returned it to the wild.
Pet adoption showcase: The Prince George’s County SPCA/Humane Society is sponsoring cat and dog adoptions, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Petco, 2319-D Forest Dr., Annapolis. The pets’ foster owners will answer questions and accept adoption applications. Adoption fees are $75 for cats, $180 for dogs. For information, call 301-262-5625 or visit www.pgspca.org .
