HAPPY TRAILS

• Gibson Ranch (8556 Gibson Ranch Road, Elverta) offers guided horseback rides for $38 for an hour (per person for ages 8 and older) through the park, including trails along Dry Creek; www.gibson-ranch.com .

• Experienced riders and horses are invited to join the American River Conservancy on an easy-to-moderate moonlight horseback ride 7:30-10 p.m. Saturday in the Cool area; $5 members, $10 nonmembers; to register: (530) 621-1224.

If your weekend plans have you in the Lake Tahoe area, check out the second Thunderbird Run, a stand-up paddleboard race, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, starting at Sand Harbor State Park, outside Incline Village.

The sport is perfect for the flat waters of the lake. Spectators will see paddlers go past Sand Harbor Beach State Recreation Area and turn around by the historic Thunderbird Lodge.

TRAIL REPAIR

REI, the Bureau of Land Management and the American River Conservancy will team up for the 19th annual National Trails Day, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Saturday along the South Fork American River Trail near Coloma.

And celebrate the trails at ARC's eighth annual American River TrailFest, 5-10 p.m. on Monday at Earthtrek Campground, off Highway 49 in Lotus. Tickets are $30 general, $15 ages 6 and younger. Includes food, two drink tickets, music, kids activities, and access to silent and live auctions.

MORNING BIRDING TOUR

Discover red-winged blackbirds, yellow-head blackbirds, marsh wrens and other wetland birds known to nest in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area during a docent-led tour, 8-11 a.m. Saturday.

Meet at 8 a.m. in Parking Lot A, west end of the Yolo Causeway bridge. Cost is $5 general, free for children ages younger than 12 and members of the Yolo Basin Foundation.

BENEFIT RIDE

A 10-, 35- and 75-mile option bike ride will be held Sunday starting at Royer Park, 100 Park Drive, Roseville.

Ride4Matt is sponsored by the friends and family of Matthew Wietrick, a cyclist who was hit and injured while riding in February. First ride (75-mile ride) begins at 8 a.m. Cost is $20. Proceeds benefit the Wietrick family.
